Our dollar-for-dollar donation matching challenge ended July 7th – but we exceeded our goal!!
An anonymous donor offered to match dollar-for-dollar the first $1,500 in donations made by July 7th to purchase new equipment for the marching band:
* A new antenna system for our wireless mics, to prevent dropouts of solo performances during competitions
* A digital stage box to connect our wired microphones to our new digital mixer
* A hardware expansion card to take advantage of the full digital functionality of the mixer with the analog equipment
The combined cost of these three pieces of equipment is a little over $3,000, which is why the goal was set at $1,500 prior to the match.
Well, we exceeded our goal and raised $2,350! What’s more: The anonymous donor agreed to match all of it! Plus, we received another $400 through donors’ employer matching! After PayPal transaction fees, that gives us $5,061 total fundraising through our efforts.
Thanks to all who contributed so generously to our campaign!
Other items the band would still like to see donated (but will not be matched dollar-for-dollar):
Wireless Microphone Systems
In the 2022 marching band season, our wireless microphones dropped out multiple times during competitions. As a result, judges and audiences didn’t get to fully appreciate the inspiring performances of our talented soloists. To rectify this, we’re asking sponsors and donors to help us replace our old wireless systems with the kind of equipment that the pros use in challenging environments like football stadiums and outdoor concerts, where there are long distances between the microphone and the mixing board. We have negotiated reduced prices with a reputable authorized dealer to purchase the following items, complete with free 2-year warranty.
Shure Beta 98H/C Cardioid Condenser Clip-on Instrument Microphone - Quantity needed: 3 - Our price: $139 each ($219 retail)
Shure ULXD1 Wireless Bodypack Transmitters - Quantity needed: 3 - Our price: $489 each ($794 retail)
Shure ULXD4 Wireless Receivers - Quantity needed: 3 - Our price: $975 each ($1,578 retail)
Sound Reinforcement
In our last competition of 2022, the Contest of Champions (COA) at Middle Tennessee State University, judges specifically called out in their commentary that our current system of speakers and amplifiers is lacking. Despite this shortcoming, our band won not only First Place in Class A, but also the COA Kentucky Governor’s Cup for the highest-scoring band from Kentucky regardless of size. A better sound reinforcement system isn’t as high a priority as the wireless mics, but would allow us to take that next step, to fully compete with the “big dogs,” and to thrill our audiences even more than we can today!
